Out of the Ashes
I want to share a story that shows just how far your generosity reaches - into moments of heartbreak, and into the hope that follows.
Recently, a woman named P came to our Emergency Food Relief Centre after surviving a devastating house fire. While she and her two young children escaped with their lives, the smoke destroyed nearly everything they owned. Clothes, furniture, toys, schoolbooks - most of it was gone.
The trauma ran deep. P's children became fearful and anxious, struggling to sleep unless they could see their mum close by. P had to stop working - not by choice, but because her children were too frightened to be apart from her.
With no income, no belongings, and two little ones in distress, P turned to us. And because of your support, we were able to step in.
We provided nutritious food, essential supplies, and a safe space where P and her children could begin to feel steady again. We also helped her access counselling services to support their emotional recovery and referred her to OneLink for housing assistance and Vinnies for clothing and essential household items. It wasn’t just about immediate relief — it was about helping P rebuild.
Gradually, things began to shift. The children are now back at school and smiling again. P has found a new home and recently started part-time work - on her own terms, with her children feeling safe and secure once more.
“You gave me strength when I had none left,” she told us. “Because you were there, I could be there for my children.”
This is the power of your kindness. It doesn’t just fill shelves - it rebuilds lives.
With heartfelt thanks,
